Kuwait suspends flights as Iran claims new attacks on US-linked targets
Kuwait has temporarily suspended all arrivals and departures at Kuwait International Airport following a fresh wave of regional tensions and reported Iranian attacks on US-linked military and strategic facilities in the Gulf.
Kuwait Airways announced that airport operations were halted as a precautionary measure after the latest security developments. The airline said flight schedules are being revised and passengers will receive updates through notifications and text messages sent to the contact numbers provided during booking.
The suspension comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its naval forces targeted a facility at Kuwait’s Al Ahmadi port that allegedly supports fuel operations for the US Navy. Iranian officials also claimed that drone and missile strikes were carried out against locations associated with US military activities in Bahrain.
According to Iranian media reports, Tehran further claimed that a US intelligence-linked data center in Bahrain was destroyed. Iranian forces also said they targeted a US communications and telecommunications facility in Kuwait, although independent confirmation of these claims was not immediately available.
Meanwhile, air raid sirens sounded across Kuwait for the fourth time as air defense systems responded to incoming missiles and drones. Kuwaiti military officials stated that defense units were actively intercepting and countering aerial threats.
Authorities explained that any explosions heard by residents were likely the result of air defense operations aimed at neutralizing hostile targets.
The latest developments have increased concerns about regional stability, air travel disruptions and energy security, with analysts warning that any further escalation could have wider economic and geopolitical consequences across the Middle East.
