Islamabad airport becomes Pakistan’s first with indoor 5G network
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) inaugurated the project during a ceremony at the airport, describing it as an important milestone in modernising airport infrastructure and expanding digital services.
Speaking at the event, Islamabad International Airport Chief Executive Officer Syed Aftab Shah Gillani said the project will provide high-speed, uninterrupted mobile connectivity throughout the terminal building once it becomes fully operational.
He said the improved network will enhance the digital experience for passengers while increasing operational efficiency for airlines and other organisations operating at the airport.
Gillani added that the project will also create new opportunities for non-aeronautical revenue generation for the Pakistan Airports Authority. He said the initiative is part of the authority’s broader strategy to modernise airport infrastructure, improve passenger convenience and support Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Officials said the Indoor 5G Connectivity Project reflects the Pakistan Airports Authority’s commitment to adopting advanced technology and delivering better services to travellers.
They expressed confidence that the project will serve as a model for other airports across Pakistan, paving the way for similar digital upgrades in the future. The initiative is expected to improve communication, accelerate digital services and provide passengers with a smoother, faster and more connected travel experience.
