World’s most livable cities 2026 revealed as rankings show surprising changes
The study measured factors such as stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure and culture. World’s most livable cities 2026 ranking has placed Copenhagen at the top once again. The Danish capital has retained the No 1 position for the second consecutive year.
Why Copenhagen remained No 1
Copenhagen secured the top position because of its strong performance in several key areas. The city received perfect scores for stability, infrastructure and education.
The report also praised Copenhagen for its excellent public services and high quality of life. Its clean environment and rich cultural scene further strengthened its overall ranking.
Which cities followed Copenhagen?
Austria’s Vienna secured second place after leading the ranking for the previous three years. Australia’s Melbourne climbed to third, while Sydney moved up to fourth place.
Zurich finished fifth, followed by Geneva in sixth position. Japan’s Osaka ranked seventh, Adelaide came eighth, Vancouver secured ninth and Tokyo completed the top 10.
What changed in the latest rankings?
New York climbed three places to 66th after improving its stability score. Lower crime rates and reduced security concerns helped improve the city’s overall position.
Honolulu remained the highest-ranked city in the United States despite slipping to 25th place. Vancouver was the only North American city to secure a place in the global top 10.
Which cities recorded the biggest declines?
The report showed that some Gulf cities lost ground because of lower stability scores. Muscat dropped 14 places to 123rd, while Kuwait City fell 12 spots to 105th.
The ongoing conflict involving Iran also affected regional rankings. Tehran dropped to 164th, while Kyiv ranked 166th, and Damascus remained the world’s least livable city.
How did Asia perform?
Asia recorded a slight improvement in its average livability score. Better healthcare systems, especially in Chinese cities, helped raise the region’s overall performance.
The report said increased healthcare investment and funding played an important role. As a result, nine Asian cities are now included among the world’s top 20 most livable cities.
