LPG sold up to Rs450 per Kg despite official rate in Lahore
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is being sold at heavily inflated prices in Lahore despite an officially notified rate, adding fresh pressure on household budgets already strained by rising inflation.
According to consumers and local market observations, the official LPG price has been fixed at Rs241 per kilogram, but many retailers are charging between Rs350 and Rs450 per kilogram, resulting in substantial overcharging across various parts of the city.
Residents say the sharp difference between the official and market rates has made cooking fuel increasingly unaffordable, particularly for low- and middle-income families that rely on LPG for daily household use. Many consumers have expressed frustration over what they describe as weak enforcement of pricing regulations.
The issue comes at a time when Pakistan is already facing rising energy and transportation costs. Recent increases in petrol, diesel and kerosene prices have pushed up the cost of living, and consumers fear that continued overpricing of LPG will further increase financial hardships.
Citizens have urged relevant authorities to take immediate action against retailers involved in overcharging and ensure that LPG is sold at the government-approved rate of Rs241 per kilogram. They have also called for stricter market monitoring and penalties for violators.
Consumer rights advocates warn that unchecked price manipulation can undermine public confidence and place an additional burden on families already struggling with inflation.
Market analysts say stronger enforcement measures and regular inspections may be necessary to stabilize LPG prices and protect consumers from excessive charges, especially during periods of high demand.
