(Web Desk): A King Edward Medical University student suicide attempt has shocked Lahore after a female student was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Hospital sources said the student allegedly tried to end her life by consuming intoxicating pills. After her condition worsened, she was shifted to Mayo Hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator and remained between life and death.

Sources added that the student lived in a hostel room located in the basement. The reason behind the suicide attempt has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for King Edward Medical University said the student is now out of danger. The university acted immediately after learning about the incident and ensured urgent medical care. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition and providing both medical and psychological support.

It is worth noting that earlier this month, a student from a private university had also allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a university building but survived.

Initial investigations in that case revealed the student, Fatima, was under severe mental stress due to family pressure over marriage. She wanted to marry a friend, but her family opposed the decision and insisted on another proposal.

Investigators said a family dispute had taken place over the issue. Distressed by constant pressure and disapproval, she reportedly jumped from the second floor of the university building after arriving on campus.
