(Web Desk): Ahmed Bilal arrested after University of Lahore student Fatima attempts suicide over family opposition to her marriage.

Police have arrested Ahmed Bilal from Narang Mandi, Sheikhupura, in connection with the attempted suicide of a female student at the University of Lahore.

The student, identified as Fatima, reportedly wanted to marry Bilal, but her family opposed the relationship, insisting she continue her studies. Sources said Fatima became emotionally distressed after her family refused to give consent, leading to her tragic decision to jump from an upper floor of a university building. She sustained serious injuries and remains unconscious in hospital.

Investigators revealed that Fatima’s last phone call before the incident was to Ahmed Bilal, after which she deleted his contact from her phone. Police have recorded statements from her family and are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the event.

Officials said Fatima reached the university at 7:58 am, skipped her class, stayed on a phone call for 27 minutes, and jumped around 8:30 am. Her brothers added that they had bought her a new phone just the day before.

This marks the second such incident at the University of Lahore within 15 days, following the death of male student Owais Sultan last month under similar circumstances. Authorities are urging parents and students to remain vigilant about emotional distress and report any concerns immediately.
