(Web Desk): Without valid ID cards, government’s public welfare programmes and schemes are at risk as NADRA has warned citizens to renew CNICs before expiry.

Expired ID cards warning in Pakistan has been issued as National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) urged citizens to renew CNICs before expiry. This step is important to continue receiving government benefits and services.

NADRA has clearly said that expired ID cards can cause serious problems for citizens. Bank accounts, mobile SIMs, and other services may stop working if CNIC is not renewed on time.

Officials warned that people with expired ID cards may not be able to benefit from welfare programs. These include schemes like Benazir Income Support Programme and other government subsidies.

Citizens may also face issues in property transfers and vehicle registrations. This can create unnecessary trouble and delays in daily life.

According to NADRA records, millions of ID cards across the country have already expired. The authority is sending SMS alerts to remind people to renew their documents.

NADRA also advised that citizens should get their ID cards as soon as they turn 18. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority requires an active CNIC for mobile services.

If an ID card expires, mobile SIMs can be blocked without notice. NADRA revealed that over 81 lakh SIMs are still active on expired ID cards and need urgent action.

SIMs registered in the names of deceased individuals can also be blocked at any time. Citizens are advised to transfer such SIMs to their own names immediately.

Sources say that after June, late renewal may result in extra fees and possible fines. NADRA has provided multiple options including centers, the Pak ID app, and e-sahulat services for easy renewal.
