UK asylum scams exposed as British envoy issues warning to Pakistanis
The British High Commissioner in Pakistan Jane Marriott has issued a strong warning to citizens. She said many people are being misled by illegal agents who falsely promise UK asylum and settlement.
She explained that these unauthorized agents often target vulnerable individuals. They claim they can secure asylum, residency or financial opportunities in the United Kingdom in exchange for money.
Marriott stressed that all visa and asylum applications should only be submitted through official online systems. She urged people to avoid unregistered agents and third-party middlemen.
She also expressed concern over the rising number of asylum applications from Pakistan. She noted that Pakistanis are among the top nationalities applying for asylum in the UK.
According to her, many of these cases are based on misinformation spread by illegal facilitators. She said this is not based on genuine eligibility but false promises.
The envoy warned that such scams can cause serious financial losses. She added that they can also damage future travel chances and visa approvals for applicants.

She said the UK is increasing awareness efforts to guide people about safe and legal migration routes. These campaigns aim to reduce fraud and misinformation.
The warning comes as the UK continues to update and modernize its immigration system. Officials are trying to make the process more transparent and digital.
Earlier this year, the British High Commission introduced a digital eVisa system for Pakistani visitors. This allows applicants to complete most visa steps through official government platforms.
UK authorities have repeatedly advised applicants to apply directly instead of relying on agents. They say direct applications are safer and more reliable.
Marriott also highlighted scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students in the UK. She encouraged students to use official programs for education and legal migration pathways.
The main issue is rising fraud by illegal agents who misuse people’s hopes for migration. Many citizens fall into financial traps due to lack of proper information.
If awareness increases, fewer people may rely on middlemen. Official systems and education opportunities could become the safer path for legal migration.
