Russian-made grenade used in Lyari attack, initial BDU report finds
The initial report of the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) has revealed that a Russian-made RGD-1 hand grenade was used in the grenade attack on an under-construction Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) office in Karachi's Lyari area on Tuesday night.
According to the BDU's preliminary findings, investigators recovered the grenade's safety lever along with around 20 small and large metal fragments from the blast site in Phoolpati Lane. The report also noted that the explosion created a crater measuring approximately three inches deep and eight inches wide, indicating the intensity of the blast.
The Bomb Disposal Unit further stated that 60 to 70 percent of grenade attacks reported in Lyari in recent years have involved Russian-made hand grenades, highlighting a recurring pattern in the area's security incidents.
The explosion left three Jamaat-e-Islami workers injured, who were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their condition has not been officially updated.

Following the attack, JI Karachi Ameer Munaam Zafar visited the injured workers at Civil Hospital and condemned the incident, describing it as an act of terrorism. He questioned how the attackers managed to escape from the densely populated neighborhood and called for immediate action by law enforcement agencies.
Zafar urged the police to arrest those responsible for the attack as well as their alleged facilitators. He warned that Jamaat-e-Islami would announce a protest strategy if the suspects were not apprehended promptly.
Police have launched an investigation, while security has been tightened in the area to prevent further incidents.
