24 militants killed in major security operation in Bannu
Pakistani security forces have killed 24 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations in Bannu and adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing said the operations were launched in response to recent terrorist incidents in Bannu, including attacks on police personnel and a vehicle-borne suicide bombing. Security forces, working alongside law enforcement agencies, carried out coordinated actions based on intelligence reports to target militant hideouts and networks.
According to the ISPR, intense exchanges of fire took place during the past 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of 24 militants associated with what the military described as the Indian-backed group “Fitna al-Khawarij.” Weapons, ammunition and other military equipment were also recovered during the operations.
The statement said the slain militants were involved in multiple terrorist activities, including attacks on security forces and the killing of innocent civilians. Authorities believe the operation has dealt a significant blow to militant elements operating in the region.
Security officials confirmed that clearance operations are still underway to locate and eliminate any remaining militants and their facilitators. The military emphasized that all individuals responsible for planning, supporting or carrying out terrorist attacks will be brought to justice.
The ISPR reiterated that counterterrorism operations will continue under the National Action Plan and the government’s “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy. Officials said security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the country.
The latest operation highlights Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and prevent militant groups from regrouping in sensitive areas.
