Punjab expands electric bus service to Chiniot
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the new electric bus service through a video link. The launch ceremony in Chiniot was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan, DPO Dr. Naveed Atif, Members of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Ilyas Chinioti and Saqib Khan Chadhar, as well as senior government officials, business leaders, lawyers, and media representatives.
The new Punjab electric bus service will operate between Chiniot, Lalian, Bhowana, and Pul Dingro through Lahore Road. Officials said buses will run daily from 5:00am to 10:00pm, making travel easier for passengers throughout the day.
The government has fixed the one-way fare at Rs20, while children under the age of five can travel free. To encourage people to use the electric bus service, all passengers will also enjoy free travel during the first three days after the launch.
According to officials, the expansion is part of Punjab’s wider plan to modernize public transport and introduce environmentally friendly buses in more cities.
The Punjab electric bus service is expected to improve travel facilities while reducing pollution caused by conventional vehicles.

The government believes the electric bus service will strengthen transport links between Chiniot and nearby towns, making daily commuting more affordable and convenient for thousands of residents.
Officials added that expanding the Punjab electric bus service beyond major cities reflects the province’s commitment to providing better and greener public transport across Punjab.
