Fully Funded DAAD PhD Scholarship 2027 for Pakistani students - apply now
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has invited applications for its Doctoral Scholarships 2027. The programme gives international graduates a chance to complete a fully funded PhD at recognised universities and research institutions across Germany.
The scholarship is mainly funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. It supports students who want to complete a full PhD in Germany or a jointly supervised Cotutelle doctorate with institutions in Germany and another country.
Who can apply and what benefits are offered?
Selected scholars will receive a monthly stipend of €1,400 along with health, accident and personal liability insurance. The package also includes travel support, an annual research allowance of €460 and funding for German language courses.
Depending on personal circumstances, applicants may also receive rent support, family allowances and financial assistance for disability or chronic illness-related expenses. These additional benefits are designed to help students focus on their research.
Applicants must have above-average academic qualifications, including a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification. In exceptional cases, candidates with a bachelor’s degree may also be considered.
What benefits will selected scholars receive?
Candidates must secure admission to a recognised doctoral programme where required and meet the relevant language requirements. They also should not have lived in Germany for more than 15 months before the application deadline.
Applicants need to choose a suitable German host institution and prepare a research proposal with a prospective academic supervisor. They must then register through the DAAD online portal and submit academic transcripts, degree certificates, a CV, a motivation letter, recommendation letters and language proficiency documents where applicable.
Applications will be assessed on academic excellence, research quality, motivation, leadership potential and the practicality of the proposed research project. Reviewers will also consider previous research achievements and the suitability of the selected host institution.
For most countries, the application deadline is October 21, 2026. However, Pakistani applicants are generally required to submit their applications by August 31, 2026, and they are advised to confirm the deadline before applying.
