ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): HEC has announced an undergraduate IT scholarship at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, inviting eligible Pakistani students to apply for the 2026 intake.

HEC announces IT scholarship for Pakistani students

Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced a valuable opportunity for students who want to pursue higher education abroad. The commission has invited applications for an undergraduate scholarship in the field of Information Technology at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) for the September and October 2026 intake.

The scholarship is open to eligible Pakistani and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) nationals who wish to study in Sri Lanka. HEC has encouraged interested students to apply before the deadline and carefully review all eligibility requirements.

According to the commission, the scholarship aims to support talented students by providing access to internationally recognized education and helping them develop skills needed in the fast-growing technology sector.

Students are advised to visit the HEC website to obtain complete information regarding the application process, required documents and admission guidelines.

Scholarship offers major financial benefits

The scholarship provides a full tuition fee waiver for the entire undergraduate degree programme, which normally lasts between three and four years depending on the selected course.

According to HEC, the scholarship is valued between USD10,000 and USD25,000, depending on the programme chosen by the student.

Recipients will also have the opportunity to transfer to selected offshore degree programmes offered through SLIIT’s international partner universities. However, students choosing this option will be responsible for paying any tuition fees and other charges required by the partner institution.

Successful applicants will receive internationally recognized qualifications awarded by SLIIT and, where applicable, its partner universities, enhancing their career opportunities in Pakistan and abroad.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

HEC has announced several eligibility conditions that applicants must meet before submitting their applications.

Applicants must be Pakistani or AJK nationals and should have completed HSSC, A-Level or an equivalent qualification recognized for undergraduate admission.

Students must also satisfy the minimum academic requirements for their selected degree programme. In most cases, applicants should have achieved academic results ranging between 75 percent and 90 percent, or an equivalent grade.

In addition, candidates must be eligible for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme in Pakistan and possess a valid passport along with all required supporting documents.

The commission has advised applicants to ensure that every document is complete and accurate before submitting the online application.

Students awaiting certificates can also apply

HEC has provided relief for students who have completed their studies but have not yet received their final certificates.

Applicants awaiting HSSC, A-Level or equivalent certificates may still submit their applications by providing a completion or hope certificate issued by the relevant educational authority.

The document must confirm that the student has successfully completed the required qualification and is eligible for university admission in Pakistan.

Officials say this arrangement ensures that deserving students are not excluded simply because their official certificates are still being processed.

Scholarship does not cover living expenses

While the scholarship provides complete tuition fee coverage, students should be aware that several important expenses are not included.

Applicants will be responsible for accommodation, meals, airfare, health insurance, visa fees, visa renewal charges, local transportation and all other personal expenses during their stay in Sri Lanka.

HEC has advised prospective students to carefully estimate these additional costs before deciding to study abroad.

Students should also review all scholarship conditions to understand their financial responsibilities throughout the duration of the degree programme.

Officials believe this scholarship will provide Pakistani students with quality international education while strengthening academic cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Students interested in applying can find complete details, eligibility criteria and the application procedure on the official HEC website.
