Petrol price rises by Rs5 and diesel by Rs31 amid protest threats
The revised fuel rates will apply for one day as authorities move towards daily price adjustments.
The federal government announced a major increase in petroleum prices, adding further pressure on consumers already facing rising living costs. The decision was notified by the Petroleum Division through an official announcement.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs5 per litre. The new petrol rate has increased from Rs310.71 to Rs315.71 per litre.
Diesel witnessed a much larger increase under the latest revision. The price of diesel jumped by Rs30 per litre, rising from Rs323.30 to Rs353.30 per litre.
Officials clarified that these revised rates will come into effect from midnight and will remain applicable only for July 18. The announcement comes after the government’s decision to introduce a system of daily fuel price revisions.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik recently stated that the prime minister and federal cabinet had decided to allow Ogra to determine petroleum prices on a daily basis. Under the new mechanism, Ogra will publish updated fuel prices and related details on its website every day.
The policy is intended to align local fuel prices more closely with international market movements. Authorities believe the move will make the pricing system more transparent and responsive to global oil fluctuations.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has strongly opposed the new pricing policy. The association warned that the decision could create uncertainty for fuel station operators across the country.
Chairman Nauman Ali said the association rejects the proposed petroleum price deregulation policy. He warned that if the government does not withdraw the decision, petrol pump owners may consider protests and a nationwide strike next week.
The latest increase has sparked concerns among consumers and businesses that rely heavily on fuel. Many are now closely watching whether daily price revisions will bring further increases or future relief.
The sharp rise in diesel prices could increase transportation and business costs in the coming days. Daily fuel pricing may improve transparency, but it could also make fuel costs more unpredictable. The reaction from petrol pump owners suggests the new policy may face challenges before it is fully implemented.
