US launches fresh strikes on Iran, key Bandar Abbas port among targets
According to the US military, the latest operation was conducted on the orders of President Donald Trump. Officials said the attacks focused on military infrastructure believed to support Iran’s defense and missile operations.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces struck command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone facilities, and coastal surveillance sites during the operation.
Officials confirmed that Bandar Abbas was among the locations targeted. The city is home to Iran’s largest commercial port as well as major naval and Revolutionary Guards facilities, making it a strategically important military hub.
CENTCOM also said American forces carried out a separate 90-minute strike earlier in the day on Greater Tunb Island, where coastal defense positions and cruise missile sites were hit.
The latest operation comes after President Trump repeated warnings that the US could target more Iranian infrastructure if tensions continue. Earlier this week, he also threatened strikes on Iran’s energy facilities and bridges.
Those remarks have drawn criticism from international legal experts, who argue that attacks on infrastructure essential to civilians could violate the 1949 Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.

The conflict began after the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28.
Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military bases, leading to continued fighting across the region.
The ongoing conflict has already caused heavy casualties, displaced millions of people, disrupted regional stability, and pushed global oil prices higher.
The latest strikes are expected to add to concerns over security in the Middle East and the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
