US-Iran deal may be signed ‘in coming days’, says Araghchi
He said the signing would likely take place digitally at first, with both sides approving the deal remotely before an official announcement is made. He expressed hope that the process could move forward quickly.
Araghchi said, “As soon as the final stages of our negotiations are completed, this agreement will be signed and announced,” adding that both sides would sign it electronically. He described it as a positive step and said progress had been made. He also said the agreement could allow Iran to collect fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Iran has already introduced a toll system during the conflict, which some countries have criticized as illegal.
According to him, “There will be costs involved, and those costs must be paid,” suggesting Iran wants long-term control over transit services in the waterway. Meanwhile, reports say US forces recently shot down several Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz after they were seen as a threat to commercial shipping. US Central Command later confirmed the action and said the waterway remains open.

Iranian sources reported explosions near Sirik port and Qeshm Island, saying they were warning shots fired by Iranian forces against unauthorized vessels. The draft proposal reportedly includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing restrictions on Iranian ports. Discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme are expected to follow later.
US officials say the deal aligns with key objectives and has improved the chances of progress in negotiations, although final terms are still being debated. Some reports suggest the agreement could be signed soon in a European location, possibly involving senior officials from both sides. However, no final decision has been confirmed yet.
