Every year, countries around the world announce public holidays, helping workers and students plan rest, travel, and family time.

In the same way, the United Arab Emirates has now shared details of its expected public holidays for 2026.

As 2025 moves toward its end, preparations to welcome the new year are already underway across the UAE.

Many residents were eager to know when the first official holiday of 2026 would fall, as Islamic dates are based on moon sighting and change every year.

Officials confirmed that the first public holiday of the new year will be on January 1, 2026, marking New Year’s Day. Changes in public transport schedules and parking fees are also expected after celebrations.

The UAE is expected to observe a total of 12 public holidays in 2026.

These include New Year’s Day, three holidays for Eid ul Fitr starting from 1 Shawwal, and Yom-e-Arafat on 9 Zilhaj.

Eid ul Adha will follow with three holidays beginning from 10 Zilhaj.

Other expected holidays include Islamic New Year on 1 Muharram, Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 12 Rabiul Awwal, and UAE National Day on December 2 and 3.

Even if moon sighting causes slight date changes, there is still a strong chance of enjoying a long six-day weekend during the year.

The early announcement helps people plan better. Long weekends bring travel and family time opportunities. Moon sighting may slightly change dates. Overall, 2026 looks promising for breaks in the UAE.
