The 42-year-old NCP divisional chief in Khulna was attacked near Gazi Medical College Hospital late Monday morning.
“Miscreants opened fire targeting his head around 11:45am (10:45am PKT) near Gazi Medical College Hospital in the city,” police officer Rafikul Islam told The Daily Star. “He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.”
Authorities later confirmed Sikder is “out of danger,” with the bullet entering through one side of his ear and exiting the other.
This comes just days after Sharif Osman Hadi, a key NCP student leader, was shot in the head in Dhaka while campaigning for February’s elections. Hadi died last Thursday in Singapore after six days on life support.
The attacks have triggered violent protests, with several buildings, including offices of leading newspapers Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, set on fire and vandalised.
Political unrest has been increasing in Bangladesh. In November, gunmen on motorbikes attacked a BNP rally in Chattogram, killing one person and injuring two others, including a candidate.

Police said the rally was attended by hundreds and reflected rising tensions ahead of the elections.
The attacks highlight escalating violence targeting political figures. Sharif Osman Hadi’s killing shows leaders are increasingly vulnerable. The Khulna shooting reinforces fears for safety ahead of elections. Security remains a major concern as Bangladesh prepares for February polls.
