Nepal flood disaster leaves hundreds missing
The devastating floods have caused widespread destruction in several parts of Nepal, with rescue teams continuing their search for missing people.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 3,655 Nepali citizens are currently listed as missing.
The authority said the missing list also includes 592 foreigners and 933 workers employed on hydropower projects along the affected river.
The situation has become particularly serious in Nuwakot district. The number of missing people there increased sharply to 1,158, compared with 115 reported a day earlier.
Rasuwa district is also badly affected, with another 562 people reported missing. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate those who remain unaccounted for.
The missing people include members of Nepal’s security and government services. At least 45 Nepali army personnel, 38 police and armed police officers, and 19 customs and immigration officials are among those missing.
Disaster also affects Tibet and India
The disaster has also caused major losses across the border in China. Chinese state media previously reported 16 deaths and 546 missing people in Tibet following the floods.
When the figures from Nepal and Tibet are combined, the reported death toll reaches 919, while 4,793 people remain missing across the two areas.
The floods struck areas close to the Nepal-China border and caused severe damage as large volumes of water moved through river channels.
The disaster has also affected neighboring India. Authorities in Uttar Pradesh reported recovering 17 bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal.
Indian officials believe the bodies may belong to people who died in the Nepal floods. However, those deaths have not yet been added to Nepal’s official toll.
Authorities are working to identify the recovered bodies before determining their identities and origins.

Rescue operations have entered their sixth day as authorities face the difficult task of finding thousands of missing people.
The sharp increase in reported missing persons in some districts shows how difficult it remains to assess the full impact of the disaster.
Officials are collecting information from different locations and agencies as search operations continue. The figures may change as more people are located or additional reports are verified.
The presence of hydropower workers, security personnel and foreign nationals among those missing has added to the urgency of the rescue operation.
Families are waiting for information about their relatives while emergency teams continue working in affected areas.
