(Web Desk): Applications for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls 2026-27 are open with deadline extended to September 15.

The programme supports women seeking higher education in Pakistan. The British Council, in partnership with the Scottish Government, has invited applications for the scholarship programme. It aims to help women from financially disadvantaged backgrounds continue their education.

Support for thousands of students

The programme was launched in 2013 and has already provided educational support to more than 25,000 women and students across Pakistan. British Council Pakistan Country Director James Hampson said the scheme has helped women access school and university education over the past decade.

He said the programme is making quality education more affordable and creating new opportunities for young women. The scheme is designed to support students who may face financial barriers to higher education.

Fields and financial support

The scholarships are available for eligible bachelor’s and master’s programmes at HEC-recognised universities in Pakistan. Eligible fields include education, agriculture and food security, sustainable energy, health sciences, climate change, STEM and engineering.

Selected students will have their tuition fees covered under the programme. University hostel costs may also be provided where needed, while students living in on-campus accommodation can receive travel support between their home and university twice a year.

Eligibility and application

Master’s students can receive research funding to access laboratories, equipment and other facilities needed for their studies. Postgraduate students can apply for two-year master’s or MPhil programmes, while undergraduate students can seek support for eligible four-year bachelor’s programmes.

Applicants must be Pakistani citizens living in Pakistan. They must also have a confirmed offer of admission to a relevant degree programme at an HEC-recognised university.

The British Council has especially encouraged women from minority communities and women with disabilities to apply. Applications can be submitted online until September 15, 2026, while eligibility criteria and application details are available through the British Council Pakistan website.

The extended deadline gives eligible Pakistani women more time to prepare their applications. The scholarship could be especially useful for students who are struggling to meet university education costs.

The wide range of eligible subjects also makes the programme useful for students interested in fields linked to Pakistan’s future needs. Applicants should check the official requirements carefully before submitting their forms.
