Actor Rajpal Yadav sentenced to imprisonment in cheque bounce case
Indian media reported that the Delhi High Court ordered Rajpal Yadav to pay INR10.5 million in each of the seven cheque bounce cases, in addition to INR25,000 payable to the state, marking a major legal setback for the actor.
The court directed that all prison terms would run simultaneously and gave Yadav two months to challenge the verdict through an appeal.
Reports further said the actor has already deposited INR22.5 million, which will be adjusted against the total compensation ordered by the court.
However, the court cautioned that if he fails to pay the remaining amount, he could face an extra six months behind bars.
The dispute traces back to 2010, when Murli Projects Private Limited extended a loan of INR50 million to support the production of Yadav's film Ata Pata Laapata.

The actor reportedly defaulted on the repayment after the film failed to perform at the box office.
In August 2024, his property was attached over the unpaid loan.
He was later taken into custody in February 2026 and remained in jail for several days before securing interim relief by depositing part of the outstanding amount.
As quoted by Gulf News, Yadav had earlier insisted that the matter went beyond finances, saying, "I was not jailed because I didn’t have money. It was about a larger issue and a matter of principle."
The ruling is not yet final, as Yadav retains the right to appeal the decision within the timeframe granted by the court.
