Two athletes die in Kazakhstan half-marathon

MOSCOW: (Web Desk) Tragedy struck during a half-marathon in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Sunday, as two participants lost their lives during the event, organisers reported.
One of the victims, 84-year-old Akkoyan Rsaliyev, lost consciousness at the start of the race and Akhmadi, 21, had covered around 16 kilometres (10 miles) when he died, Reuters reported.
Both individuals were known as regular participants in long-distance running events and had a history of active involvement in sports.
In an official statement, the organisers expressed their deep sorrow:
"The corporate foundation Courage to be the First offers its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased," organisers said in a statement.
