The Punjab government has approved 332 new appointments for the Transport Authority across the province, with recruitment planned for officers, enforcement staff and drivers.

The approved posts include 25 transport officers in Grade 14 and 25 junior transport officers in Grade 11. The Punjab Transport Department oversees the Provincial Transport Authority and coordinates transport functions through district transport authorities across the province.

123 head constables and 123 constables

The recruitment plan also includes 123 head constables and 123 constables. These appointments are expected to strengthen field operations and help transport authorities deal with existing staff shortages.

The government has also approved the recruitment of 36 drivers on a lump-sum salary package. Their pay package will be determined by a selection board headed by the Punjab chief secretary.

Three-year contracts for new staff

According to the Transport Department, all 332 officers and staff members will initially be appointed on three-year contracts.

Officials said the recruitment will not require additional funds from the government. The expenses for the new appointments will instead be managed through the existing budget.

The Punjab Transport Department currently works through district and regional transport authorities, which include officials from the administration, police and other relevant departments.

Recruitment aims to fill staff shortage

The appointments are expected to help address manpower shortages in Punjab’s 36 district transport authorities.

The move could provide additional staff for transport administration and enforcement activities across the province as authorities continue efforts to strengthen the transport system.
