Trump pauses project freedom after Pakistan request
US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States and Iran have agreed to temporarily suspend “Project Freedom” after requests from Pakistan and several other countries.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the decision was taken after what he described as extraordinary military gains during the campaign against Iran and progress toward a possible final agreement with Iranian representatives.
He said both sides had mutually agreed that the blockade would remain fully in place, but the maritime movement plan linked to Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz would be halted for a short period.
According to Trump, the temporary pause is meant to test whether the proposed agreement can be finalized and formally signed. The announcement has immediately drawn attention in global energy and shipping markets because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most sensitive trade corridors.
Project Freedom was designed to protect international commercial ships and crew passing through the strategic waterway. Earlier, Trump had warned that Iran would face serious consequences if it interfered with US vessels or humanitarian operations connected to the plan.
Under the project, US forces had also targeted Iranian fast boats operating in the Strait of Hormuz. The initiative emerged after Iran rejected fresh proposals aimed at ending the conflict.
The latest pause is being seen as a potentially important diplomatic opening, though uncertainty remains over whether both sides can convert this temporary halt into a lasting agreement.
