The federal government is preparing to relaunch the BEEP application for government officials in the coming months, aiming to strengthen secure digital communication across public institutions.
National Information Technology Board (NITB) Chief Executive Officer Faisal Ratyal informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom that the BEEP app has been fully developed in Pakistan. He said it has also been certified by all relevant government agencies, clearing the way for its official rollout.
BEEP was initially launched on a trial basis in August 2023 by former IT minister Syed Amin Ul Haque. Now serving as chairman of the National Assembly IT and Telecom Committee, Haque urged the NITB to ensure the app is rolled out on time and without delays.
Ratyal told the committee that BEEP is designed to serve as a secure messaging platform for public sector employees nationwide. The rollout will take place in phases, starting with federal ministries and their attached departments.
He said the launch is expected within the next two months. The app will be integrated with Pakistan’s federal e-Office system. This will allow secure messaging, document sharing, and smoother workflow coordination inside government offices.
BEEP includes advanced security features, including full encryption for text messages, voice calls, and video communications. These measures address earlier concerns raised by the committee over data security, especially after global cyber risks highlighted in 2024.

Ratyal said BEEP will operate on a usage-based fee model to remain sustainable. However, officials stressed that revenue generation is not the main goal. Secure and reliable communication remains the top priority.
The National Computer Emergency Response Team has formally cleared BEEP for official use. Unlike WhatsApp, whose servers are located abroad, BEEP’s data servers are based inside Pakistan, offering tighter control and enhanced security.
