PTA issues alert
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important notice for mobile users. It has warned users to ensure their SIMs are linked with valid CNICs.
Risk of SIM blockage
According to PTA, SIMs connected to expired or canceled CNICs may be blocked. This can suddenly stop mobile services and create serious problems.
Warning on deceased records
The authority also warned about SIMs registered under deceased individuals. Such cases may even lead to legal action if not corrected.
Advice for users
Users are advised to update their CNICs as soon as possible. This step can help avoid service disruption and legal complications.
NADRA’s instructions
Meanwhile, NADRA has urged citizens to renew their ID cards before expiry. Delays can create multiple issues in daily life.
Impact on services
Expired CNICs can affect bank accounts and mobile SIMs. People may also lose access to government and welfare programs.
Penalty possibility
Officials said late renewal may lead to penalties in the future. However, no fines are currently being charged.
Millions affected
Data shows millions of ID cards have already expired across the country. NADRA is sending SMS alerts to remind citizens.
Requirement at age 18
Authorities said citizens must get a CNIC once they turn 18. PTA requires a valid CNIC for active mobile services.
Large number of risky SIMs
NADRA revealed that over 8,100,000 SIMs are linked to expired CNICs. These SIMs need urgent renewal to avoid disconnection.
Transfer of SIM ownership
SIMs registered in the name of deceased persons can be blocked anytime. Citizens should transfer such SIMs to their own name.
