Microsoft is preparing a major gaming-focused upgrade for Windows 11 in 2026, aiming to make it “the best place to play” for gamers.

The updates will bring deep optimizations for both PCs and handheld gaming devices. Improvements to the graphics stack, resource scheduling, and background workload management are designed to reduce load times, minimize stuttering, and deliver smoother frame rates.

Windows 11 will also expand the Xbox Full Screen experience, giving devices a console-style interface. This includes controller-friendly navigation, better battery management, and improved performance during gaming sessions.
