(Web Desk): Meta has discovered a serious security flaw in WhatsApp (CVE-2025-55177) that may have been used in highly advanced cyber-attacks targeting certain people.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and cybersecurity experts have issued a fresh warning to millions of WhatsApp users in Pakistan after reports of a new wave of targeted hacking attempts.

According to the advisory, hackers are using malicious links, phishing messages, and fake verification codes to gain unauthorized access to personal accounts.

Cyber experts explained that attackers often trick users into clicking on seemingly authentic links, which secretly install spyware or steal login credentials.

In some cases, users have received phone calls or text messages pretending to be from WhatsApp support, asking them to share their six-digit verification code.

Once this code is revealed, hackers can instantly hijack the account, gaining access to chats, media, and even financial information.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and avoid opening suspicious links or sharing personal data.

Users are strongly advised to enable two-step verification in WhatsApp settings, regularly update their app, and avoid downloading modified versions of the platform.

Cybercrime specialists warn that such attacks are increasing in Pakistan, where WhatsApp remains the most widely used communication tool.

PTA has also requested users to report any suspicious activity to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing for immediate action.

Digital safety experts stressed that staying vigilant is the only way to outsmart hackers.
