Haris Rauf fined 20pc of match fee for breach of ICC Code of Conduct
Haris Rauf penalised for on-field argument
The International Cricket Council (ICC) found Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf guilty of a Level 1 offence during Sunday’s One-day International match against England. The incident happened in the 46th over when Rauf appealed for a wide from the non-striker’s end and argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks after the appeal was rejected.
According to the ICC, on-field umpire Sharfuddoula warned Rauf, but the bowler continued the argument and raised his bat in frustration. The governing body said his actions breached Article 2.20 of its Code of Conduct, which covers “displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.
Third offence brings total to five demerit points
Along with the 20pc fine, Rauf received one demerit point for the incident. It was his third offence within a 24-month period, taking his total to five demerit points.
Rauf accepted the charge and the punishment proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As he accepted both, the case did not require a formal hearing, the ICC said.
Pakistan win despite tense closing stages
Rauf also played a part in Pakistan’s dramatic one-wicket victory over England in the tri-series match. He scored seven runs off 19 balls, while Shadab Khan’s century helped Pakistan secure the win.
The incident involving Rauf occurred during the closing stages of the match, when tensions were high. The ICC’s action followed its assessment of his conduct under the rules governing players’ behaviour.
England fined for slow over rate
England were also fined 15pc of their match fee after the team failed to complete its overs within the required time. The ICC found England three overs short of the target at the end of the allotted period.
Captain Harry Brook accepted the offence and the penalty on behalf of the team. As a result, no formal hearing was required for England either.
The penalties show that the ICC applies its Code of Conduct even during close and tense matches. Rauf’s growing demerit-point total also makes it important for him to avoid further disciplinary offences within the relevant period.
