Rain to bring relief as heatwave grips major cities
Pakistan continues to experience intense heat, with temperatures soaring across major cities, although rain is expected in some regions, offering hope of relief from the scorching weather.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), thunderstorms and rainfall are likely in Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today. Lahore is also expected to receive rain on Thursday, which may help lower temperatures in the city.
Islamabad is likely to remain extremely hot and dry, with the mercury expected to reach as high as 42°C. Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan is forecast to experience partly cloudy weather.
Lahore remains under the grip of severe heat, with the minimum temperature recorded at 32°C and the maximum expected to climb to 42°C. Wind speeds are likely to remain around 5 kilometers per hour, while humidity levels may reach 50 percent. However, residents are looking forward to the possibility of rain, which could provide much-needed respite from the hot conditions.
Karachi is also facing hot and humid weather. The city’s current temperature was recorded at 31°C, while the minimum temperature remained at 30°C. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 39°C during the day.
Meteorologists said southwesterly winds are blowing at 18 kilometers per hour, while humidity has risen to 79 percent, increasing discomfort levels across the city.
The PMD further warned that Karachi’s air quality has deteriorated, with particulate matter levels exceeding safe limits. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and take precautionary measures to protect their health.
