Pakistan's Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across upper parts of the country, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Kashmir until September 6.

According to the department, a new westerly wave is expected to affect the country's upper areas from August 31 and may continue until September 5.

Heavy rain expected in Kashmir

Several areas of Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, may receive intermittent heavy rain from August 28 night through September 6.

In upper Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore and Sialkot, rain is expected from August 29 to September 5.

Parts of central and southern Punjab are also likely to receive rain between September 1 and 5.

KP and GB also on alert

Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Dir and Chitral, are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms from August 29 to September 5.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, Diamer, Astore, Skardu and Hunza may receive rain and thunderstorms from August 30 to September 6.

Urban flooding risk rises

The weather department has warned that persistent rainfall could trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Mardan.

Flash floods, rising water levels in streams and landslides are also possible in mountainous areas.

Authorities have advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys and closely monitor weather updates. Farmers have also been urged to plan agricultural activities according to weather conditions.

Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid.
