Heatwave to continue as rain stays away in May
Karachi remains in the grip of a severe heatwave, with the weather department forecasting no rainfall in the city during May.
The warning comes as hot and dry conditions continue across the city after sea breezes weakened. Monday was recorded as the hottest day of the current summer season. Local reports also said 10 citizens died a day earlier as temperatures and heat stress intensified.
Another heatwave likely from May 7
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, another heatwave is likely to affect Sindh from May 7.
Officials said temperatures may show a slight decline from today, but heat intensity is expected to rise again after May 13.
On Tuesday morning, Karachi recorded a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius. The mercury is expected to reach between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius during the day. Humidity in the air was recorded at 20 percent.
Weather outlook for other cities
In Islamabad and nearby areas, hot and dry weather is expected to continue.
In upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the forecast suggests dry and partly cloudy conditions. However, afternoon rain with gusty winds and thunder is likely in Kohistan, Battagram, Shangla, Dir, Parachinar, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Karak and Bannu.
