Cyclone Asna moves away from Karachi; torrential rains likely

KARACHI: (Suno News) After reaching 100 kilometers from Karachi, cyclone Asna has moved 200 kilometers away from the port city.

The Meteorological Department has issued the sixth alert, stating that despite the cyclone moving in a westerly direction now, heavy rains are still likely to lash the port city and other areas including Tharparkar, Thatta, and Sajawal.

Showers have also been forecast for Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Sanghar.

On the other hand, downpours have been reported from across the province, which inundated villages and disrupted power supply.

Met Office Director General Sahibzada Khan said that winds, accompanying the rain, might be devastating for the weak infrastructure.

He added it is after 60 years that the cyclone has developed so close to the coastal areas of Sindh.

He described the rising sea temperatures as a worrying sign.
