(Web Desk): Lahore residents will enjoy free travel during Basant as the government launches a special transport plan to ease movement and reduce traffic pressure.

Under the plan, citizens can use Metrobus, Orange Line Metro Train, and other transport services free of cost from February 6 to February 8 during Basant celebrations.

The initiative has been prepared jointly by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and private ride services. The aim is to provide safe, easy, and free travel to the public during the festival.

Transport and Mass Transit Minister Bilal Akbar said around 600,000 passengers are expected to benefit from the free travel facility every day.

He explained that the Orange Line Metro Train will offer free rides from Dera Gujran to Ali Town and is expected to serve about 270,000 passengers daily.

Similarly, 64 Metrobus vehicles will operate from Shahdara to Gajumata, allowing nearly 150,000 people to travel without paying any fare each day.

For feeder routes in Lahore, 188 buses will run on 21 different routes. In addition, 40 modern electric buses under the Punjab Mass Transit Authority will operate on two city routes and offer free rides.

Officials said the move aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve public convenience, and promote eco-friendly travel during Basant.

Citizens welcomed the decision and said free transport will make Basant celebrations more enjoyable and stress-free.

The plan shows focus on public comfort. Free transport may reduce traffic jams. Eco-friendly buses add long-term value. Public response appears largely positive.
