Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir observed across Pakistan
Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The day marks India's decision on August 5, 2019, to revoke the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir, a move Pakistan says violated international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Special events have been arranged across the country to highlight the issue. Rallies, seminars, discussions and awareness campaigns are taking place in Islamabad, all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
A central rally is being held on Constitution Avenue in Islamabad with the participation of federal ministers, parliamentarians and people from different walks of life. Sirens were sounded while one minute of silence was observed to pay tribute to those affected by the conflict.
The government says the purpose of the observance is to keep international attention focused on Kashmir and to show continued political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmiri people.
President and Prime Minister renew Pakistan’s position
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate messages on the occasion, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of IIOJK.
President Zardari said seven years had passed since India’s unilateral action, but the internationally recognised disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir remained unchanged. He paid tribute to the courage and resilience of the Kashmiri people and said their determination had remained strong despite years of restrictions.
The president said Pakistan would continue raising the Kashmir issue at regional and international forums until the dispute is resolved according to United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
He also urged the international community, especially the United Nations, to play a stronger role in addressing the human rights situation in IIOJK and helping achieve a peaceful settlement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also described the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as an important part of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He said Pakistan would continue extending diplomatic, political and moral support to Kashmiris.
The prime minister urged the international community to encourage steps that would help resolve the dispute peacefully. He also called for an end to reported human rights violations and for conditions that would allow a settlement in line with relevant UN resolutions.

Pakistan Armed Forces reaffirm solidarity
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu also issued a joint message on Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir.
The military leadership reaffirmed its support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination under international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The statement expressed concern over the continued situation in IIOJK, referring to reports of human rights violations, a heavy security presence and changes affecting the region. It added that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a peaceful and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The Armed Forces also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the conflict and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to stand alongside the Kashmiri people.

Nationwide events highlight Kashmir issue
Across Pakistan, government departments, educational institutions and civil society organisations are holding programmes to mark the day. Speakers at these events are discussing the historical background of the Kashmir dispute and Pakistan’s official position.
Public rallies and seminars are also being organised in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where participants are expressing solidarity with Kashmiris living in IIOJK.
Officials say these activities are intended to keep global attention focused on the Kashmir issue and to encourage peaceful dialogue based on international law.
