Mobile Phone services suspended as Chehlum security tightens in Pakistan

Authorities have temporarily suspended mobile phone services in parts of Pakistan to ensure security during Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum. The restrictions are in place in Quetta and Shorkot, where religious processions and gatherings are being held under strict security measures.

Officials said the temporary suspension is intended to help maintain law and order and support security personnel during the religious observance. However, the move has also caused inconvenience for thousands of residents in the affected areas.

Mobile services suspended in Shorkot

In Shorkot, mobile phone services were suspended as part of precautionary security arrangements for Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum.

Authorities said the measure was taken to reduce security risks during religious processions and public gatherings. Such temporary suspensions are often introduced during major religious events to assist law enforcement agencies.

The communication blackout has affected many aspects of daily life. Residents reported difficulties in contacting family members, carrying out business activities and using internet-based services.

Residents report communication problems

The suspension of mobile networks has disrupted routine communication for many people living in the affected areas.

Citizens said they were unable to make phone calls, send messages or access mobile internet services. Some also expressed concerns about facing communication problems during emergencies.

Business owners and online workers also reported temporary interruptions in their daily activities because of the network shutdown.

Despite the inconvenience, officials said the restrictions were introduced only as a temporary security measure and were aimed at protecting the public during Chehlum events.

Mobile network shutdown in Quetta

Mobile phone services were also suspended in Quetta as part of heightened security arrangements.

Authorities said the decision was made due to the prevailing security situation in the provincial capital, where Chehlum processions are taking place under strict monitoring.

Security personnel have been deployed at key locations across the city to ensure peaceful religious gatherings and prevent any untoward incidents.

PTA confirms suspension request

Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that mobile phone services in Quetta were suspended following a request from the Balochistan Home Department.

According to the PTA, the shutdown is part of coordinated security measures introduced for the religious observance.

Authorities have not announced when mobile services will be fully restored. The restrictions are expected to remain in place until security officials determine that the situation is safe.

Residents have been advised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow official instructions during the temporary suspension.
