Sindh extends Rs 2 billion fuel subsidy scheme for motorcyclists
Murad Ali Shah has approved the extension of the popular public relief initiative, the Peoples Motorcycle Fuel Subsidy Programme, until May 31, 2026.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held at the CM House Sindh, where several key administrative and financial matters were discussed. The meeting focused on development projects, legal settlements, and ongoing fiscal reforms in the province.
Subsidy programme extended
Officials confirmed that the fuel subsidy programme, aimed at providing relief to daily commuters, has already benefited more than 548,000 citizens across Sindh. So far, Rs 1.096 billion has been disbursed under the scheme, while an additional Rs 2 billion has been released for the month of May 2026.
The chief minister directed authorities to ensure smooth and transparent distribution of funds so that maximum citizens can benefit from the initiative.
Tax relief for bike cab services
In another major decision, the cabinet approved a significant reduction in sales tax for motorcycle cab services. The tax rate has been cut from 5 percent to 2 percent, a move expected to ease financial pressure on online riders and delivery workers. Officials estimate this will have an annual fiscal impact of around Rs 120 million.
Legal and financial reforms reviewed
The meeting also reviewed progress on the Sindh Development and Maintenance of Infrastructure Cess Amendment Act 2026. Officials briefed the cabinet that 132 applicants have signed settlement agreements, while over Rs 18 billion in bank guarantees have already been encashed.
The cabinet further approved an extension of the deadline for settlement of cases until August 23, 2026. Payment of dues will be allowed in installments stretching up to 2028, with incentives offered for early settlement.
Authorities said these steps are part of broader efforts to improve governance, resolve legal disputes, and provide economic relief to citizens across the province.
