Lahore (Web Desk): The Punjab government plans to modernize CCD and expand offices, police stations, and residences in every tehsil to strengthen crime control.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to transform the Crime Control Department into a “Premier Investigation Agency”. The decision was taken after officials reviewed the department’s performance and the positive public response to its recent operations.

According to officials, the government plans to expand the department’s role and develop it on the lines of the world’s leading crime control agencies. The aim is to make the CCD one of the most advanced investigative bodies in the country.

The chief minister directed authorities to equip the department with modern forensic systems, advanced investigation tools, artificial intelligence software, and intelligence surveillance technology. These upgrades are expected to improve the ability of officers to track criminals and monitor suspicious activities more effectively.

The government has also approved the creation of a fully equipped CCD headquarters with modern facilities. In addition, CCD offices, police stations, and residential facilities for officers will be built in every division, district, and tehsil across Punjab to strengthen the department’s presence at the local level.

Authorities also revealed that a province-wide crackdown against illegal weapons will start after Eidul Fitr. Officials believe stronger enforcement will help reduce crime and improve public safety.

Recent statistics presented to the chief minister showed a significant decline in crime. Robbery incidents have dropped by 77% compared with last year, while mobile phone and bag snatching cases have decreased by 49%. Vehicle theft has fallen by 17%, attempted murder by 31%, and kidnapping for ransom by 45%.

The chief minister also approved the establishment of a modern research center within the CCD. The center will focus on developing new strategies and technologies to prevent crime and improve law enforcement practices.

Maryam Nawaz further directed the department to take strict action against those involved in acid attacks on women.

In a separate message marking the International Day of Women Judges, she described the appointment of a woman chief justice of the Lahore High Court as a historic milestone for the country’s judicial system.
