Punjab to launch ‘Sanjhi Sabzi’ project on CM Maryam’s orders
The initiative was launched in Muzaffargarh on the chief minister’s instructions to provide free seasonal vegetables to deserving families by cultivating vegetables on government-owned land in both urban and rural areas.
Under the project, vegetables are currently being grown on 140 plots spread across 139 kanals of land to support low-income households. The initiative began in a Christian community village in Muzaffargarh, where local residents also voluntarily started cultivating vegetables to help needy families.
Describing the “Sanjhi Sabzi” project as a successful model, Maryam Nawaz directed all deputy commissioners to introduce similar initiatives in their respective districts to expand public welfare across Punjab.

During a meeting with Muzaffargarh Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Tahir Jappa, the chief minister praised his efforts and presented him with the Chief Minister Merit Badge along with a cash prize of Rs100,000. The deputy commissioner informed the chief minister that government land ranging from one marla to one kanal had been identified in villages for vegetable cultivation.
He added that vacant land adjacent to government buildings in rural and urban areas, including properties belonging to the health, local government, forest and education departments, as well as assistant commissioners’ offices, is being used to cultivate vegetables on 139 kanals of land.
Maryam Nawaz directed the deputy commissioner to continue the initiative and ensure its long-term sustainability so that more deserving families across the province could benefit from the project.
