Punjab to introduce strict law against illegal weapons
The federal government has decided to introduce a new law to curb the possession of illegal weapons across the country. The proposed legislation will give people a one-time opportunity to voluntarily surrender illegal weapons and related licences before strict legal action begins.
According to sources, the Ministry of Law has started drafting the proposed legislation. Under the plan, citizens will be given a limited amnesty period to surrender illegal weapons without facing immediate prosecution.
Officials said anyone who fails to surrender illegal weapons within the specified deadline will face legal action, including the registration of criminal cases.

The proposed legislation provides for strict punishments for possessing illegal weapons. Offenders could face prison sentences ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment.
Government officials said the new law is intended to reduce the circulation of unlicensed firearms and strengthen the crackdown on illegal weapons networks operating across the country.
The Ministry of Law is finalising the draft bill, which will be presented to the relevant authorities for approval before being introduced.
