Punjab launches easier marriage certificate service
The Punjab Information Technology Board has introduced a new convenience for citizens seeking marriage registration, making marriage certificates available through 15 e-Khidmat centres across Punjab.
Under the new facility, people can register their marriage and obtain a certificate through a simpler, quicker and more secure process without going through lengthy procedures or unnecessary complications.
The centres will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm. Citizens can get official information through e-Khidmat Punjab
or contact the helpline at 1317 for further assistance.
Officials said the initiative is part of wider efforts to improve public service delivery through digital systems and easier access to essential documents.
Earlier, National Database and Registration Authority explained the process of obtaining a marriage certificate through union councils. Under existing rules, every married couple is required to register their marriage with the relevant union council.
For registration, applicants generally need a nikahnama, copies of the bride and groom’s national identity cards, copies of parents’ identity cards and copies of the witnesses’ identity cards.
Either the bride or groom may visit the union council to submit the application. Officials verify the documents and enter the nikahnama details into the system. A printout is then provided for proofreading. Once the applicant confirms that all details are correct and signs the document, the marriage certificate is issued.
Authorities say easier access to marriage registration can help families avoid delays and simplify legal documentation. The facility is currently also available through the Pak ID in selected areas including Chakwal, Nankana Sahib, Quetta and Karachi East.
