The Punjab government on Monday dismissed a notification circulating on social media that claimed several public holidays would be observed across the province during the first week of February.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari clarified that the provincial government has not issued any such notification and termed the circulating document unauthenticated and misleading. She urged the public not to rely on unverified content shared online.
The viral notification, dated February 2, 2026, was attributed to the Services and General Administration Department. It claimed that public holidays would be observed in Punjab from February 4 to February 7. According to the document, February 4 was listed as a holiday for Shab-e-Barat, February 5 for Kashmir Day, while February 6 and 7 were marked as holidays for Basant.
The clarification comes amid widespread public discussion and confusion over extended holidays in the province. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced that the province would observe a long weekend around Kashmir Day. She had also confirmed a provincial holiday for Basant on February 6, followed by the regular weekend of Saturday and Sunday.

However, officials stressed that no official notification has been issued announcing holidays from February 4 to February 7 as claimed in the viral document.
Following the circulation of the fake notification, the provincial government advised citizens, educational institutions, and private organizations to rely only on official announcements released through authorized government channels.
Authorities also warned that spreading unverified or false information could create unnecessary confusion and urged social media users to verify news before sharing.
