PM Shehbaz leaves for Iran to attend Khamenei's funeral
Shehbaz Sharif has departed on an official visit to Iran and Turkiye. The visit will continue from July 3 to July 5 and aims to strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations with the two friendly countries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers and senior government officials, is accompanying the prime minister during the visit. The prime minister will first travel to Iran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He will convey condolences on behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved families.
Shehbaz Sharif will also reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during this difficult time and express support for the brotherly nation. After completing his visit to Iran, the prime minister will travel to Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During his stay in Turkiye, the two leaders will discuss the full range of bilateral relations. Their talks will focus mainly on expanding trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye. They will also exchange views on regional peace, security, and other important international issues.

The prime minister will also address a business conference organised by Pakistan in Istanbul. The event will showcase Pakistan’s trade and investment opportunities in key sectors, including Special Economic Zones (SEZs), energy, information technology, trade, and privatisation.
Leading Turkish businessmen, investors, senior officials, and members of the business community are expected to attend the conference to explore new investment opportunities in Pakistan. Officials said the visits to Iran and Turkiye highlight Pakistan’s long-standing historical, cultural, and brotherly ties with both countries while opening new opportunities for stronger diplomatic and economic cooperation.
