Petrol pump owners reject proposal for daily fuel price changes
Petrol pump owners have strongly opposed the government’s reported proposal to introduce daily adjustments in petroleum prices, calling the plan “unacceptable” and warning that it could create serious challenges for their businesses.
In a statement, the Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association said the existing weekly fuel price adjustment system has already affected petrol pump businesses. It warned that changing fuel prices every day would make stock management and financial planning even more difficult.
The association said petrol pump owners were not consulted before the proposed policy was introduced. It stressed that stakeholders should be included in all major policy decisions that directly affect their businesses.

The association urged the government to review the proposal immediately and adopt a practical policy that takes the concerns of petrol pump operators into account. It said any new pricing mechanism should be balanced, practical and implemented only after proper consultation with all stakeholders.
The association also suggested that petroleum product prices should be revised at least once a month instead of on a daily basis. It warned that if its concerns are not addressed, petrol pump owners will announce their future course of action.
According to reports, the government is considering a proposal to revise petroleum product prices on a daily basis as part of efforts to align local fuel prices more closely with changes in international oil markets. At present, petroleum prices in Pakistan are revised on a weekly basis. Previously, prices were adjusted every two weeks, while the earlier system allowed revisions once a month.
