Pakistan launches “Apna Ghar Scheme” for affordable housing
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the “Apna Ghar Scheme,” a nationwide housing initiative aimed at helping citizens secure affordable homes through easy financing.
At the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister personally distributed bank cheques among eligible applicants, marking the formal rollout of the program.
Under the scheme, individuals can access loans of up to Rs10 million on flexible and affordable terms, repayable over a period of 20 years.
The initiative will be implemented across all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring broad national coverage.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister emphasized that providing shelter to citizens is a fundamental responsibility of the state.

He described the initiative as a significant step toward improving living standards and fulfilling the government’s commitment to housing for all.
He also congratulated the successful applicants, including individuals from modest backgrounds such as drivers and laborers.
The government aims to construct 50,000 houses within the first year of the scheme, with a long-term target of 500,000 homes in the coming years.

Officials highlighted that the project was developed through extensive consultation with both public and private sector stakeholders.
The prime minister further stated that he will personally monitor the scheme’s progress on a monthly basis.
He noted that growth in the construction sector would also stimulate economic activity, create jobs and boost related industries across the country.
