PM Shehbaz launches ‘Apna Ghar’ scheme, distributes cheques
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the “Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme” to help people build or buy their own homes across Pakistan. During the launch ceremony, the prime minister distributed cheques among successful applicants who qualified for housing loans under the program.
Under the scheme, citizens can receive housing loans of up to Rs10 million on easy terms, with a repayment period of up to 20 years. The initiative will be implemented across all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to provide relief to people struggling to own a house.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister congratulated the selected applicants and said it was a moment of happiness for him to see people receiving support for their homes. He said providing shelter is a “sacred responsibility” of the state, and ensuring a roof over people’s heads remains a top priority of his government.

Shehbaz Sharif added that efforts were made with the support of both government institutions and the private sector to make the scheme successful and accessible. He said around 50,000 houses will be constructed in the first year, while the long-term target is to build up to 500,000 houses in the coming years.
The prime minister shared that even a driver, Ghous Hussain, received a loan under the scheme, showing that people from different backgrounds can benefit. He added that a large number of homeless citizens will receive support through this initiative and promised to personally review its progress every month.
The prime minister also highlighted that the construction sector plays a key role in boosting the economy and creating jobs. He further said that banks participating in the scheme will be awarded medals on August 14, while the government is also supporting exporters and promoting economic growth.
