LESCO launches strict crackdown on unpaid electricity bills across Lahore
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched strict action against electricity consumers who fail to pay their bills on time as part of efforts to achieve recovery targets. According to sources, the company has started disconnecting power connections of consumers who did not clear even a single month’s bill by the due date.
The crackdown applies to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers across different parts of Lahore and surrounding areas. Officials have also issued warnings to consumers paying bills through installments, directing them to ensure timely payments to avoid disconnection.
In a tougher move, LESCO has reportedly ordered field teams to disconnect other electricity connections within the same house if even one consumer is found to be a defaulter. The decision is aimed at increasing pressure on chronic non-payers and improving overall bill recovery.
Sources further revealed that several areas were identified where electricity bills had remained unpaid for years. In many cases, consumers allegedly avoided clearing old dues by obtaining new electricity meters and continuing power usage under fresh connections.
LESCO has now decided to take action against such practices by disconnecting newly installed meters linked to previous unpaid liabilities. Authorities have directed officials to recover old outstanding dues before restoring or maintaining electricity supply.
The power utility believes the operation will help reduce financial losses and improve the collection system. However, the move may also create concern among consumers already struggling with rising electricity costs and economic pressure.
