People applying for driving licences in Lahore can now get medical fitness certificates free of cost at 13 designated government hospitals.

Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi announced the facility on Friday, saying free medical counters have been established to make the licensing process easier for citizens.

The certificates are available at DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar, Government Hospital Samanabad, Government General Hospital Qila Gujjar Singh and Government General Hospital Shahdara.

Other designated hospitals include Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bilal Ganj, Government Hospital Sodiwal, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kahna, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Raiwind, and Government Eye and General Hospital Swami Nagar, Shalimar.

Who needs a medical fitness certificate?

According to the traffic authorities, medical fitness certificates are mandatory for people applying for commercial driving licences and applicants aged over 50.

The new arrangement is aimed at reducing the cost and inconvenience faced by applicants who previously had to arrange medical certificates separately.

Under the proposed digital system, the designated hospitals will upload medical fitness certificates directly to the Health Department’s online portal.

Shirazi said direct digital submission would make the verification process faster and more convenient for both applicants and authorities.

The system is also expected to help authorities detect and prevent fraudulent medical certificates during the driving licence process.

The initiative is part of efforts to streamline driving licence services and improve coordination between hospitals, the Health Department and traffic authorities in Lahore.
