KP sets deadline to upgrade 32 government hospitals
KP has set a deadline to upgrade 32 DHQ hospitals, directing the relevant authorities to complete the project within the current financial year. Chairing a high-level review meeting in Peshawar, the chief minister instructed officials to accelerate work on the project and immediately remove all hurdles delaying its completion.
Afridi said hospitals where work has fallen behind should be given priority so that patients can benefit from improved healthcare services as soon as possible. He stressed that no further delays would be tolerated and directed officials to resolve all obstacles without delay.
The chief minister also announced that another review meeting will be held after three months. He instructed the relevant departments to demonstrate clear and substantial progress by then. During the meeting, officials informed the chief minister that four PC-1s worth Rs33.085 billion had been approved for the restoration and modernisation of 32 DHQ hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They said the procurement of modern medical equipment worth Rs2.55 billion had already been completed, and the equipment had been delivered to the respective hospitals. Officials added that infrastructure designs had also been finalised, while civil construction work was expected to begin soon.

Afridi also directed the authorities to accelerate work on the proposed Health City project, describing it as one of the provincial government’s top priorities alongside the hospital upgradation programme.
He further instructed the departments to ensure the timely completion of other ongoing health projects, including the Khyber Institute of Child Health. He assured officials that the provincial government would provide all necessary support to complete the projects on schedule.
The chief minister said the provincial government remained committed to strengthening the healthcare sector by upgrading existing hospitals and developing new medical infrastructure to improve access to quality healthcare across the province.
