Islamabad road closure: Check the alternative routes
Major road closed until further notice
Islamabad Traffic Police announced that the road between Rawal Dam Chowk and Kashmir Chowk would remain closed from October 15, 2026, until further notice.
The Islamabad road closure is expected to affect people travelling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Drivers heading towards Park Road, Lehtrar Road, Murree and Bhara Kahu may also face delays.
The Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a diversion plan and urged motorists to check the Islamabad traffic update before starting their journeys. The closure could increase traffic on nearby roads, especially during peak hours.
Alternative routes for commuters
People travelling from G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi can use Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue. Another option is to travel through Srinagar Highway, Mehrabad and Peshawar Road.
Motorists heading towards Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road can take Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, Tulip Hotel and Rawal Dam Road.
Those travelling towards Murree and Bhara Kahu should use Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, Srinagar Highway and Jinnah Square Underpass.
Drivers entering Islamabad from Rawalpindi can use Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road and Srinagar Highway. Meanwhile, people travelling from Park Road and Lehtrar Road towards Islamabad can take Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.
These alternative routes Islamabad commuters use may help them avoid the closed section, although traffic conditions could change throughout the day.

Underpass construction behind closure
The closure is linked to construction work on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass along Club Road. The project has led to traffic diversions in the area.
Motorists travelling from G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi can also take a U-turn at Lake View and continue via Murree Road or Club Road.
The Islamabad Traffic Police has asked drivers to follow the designated diversions and instructions from traffic officers.
Drivers advised to leave early
Authorities have warned that the Islamabad road closure could cause congestion on surrounding roads. Commuters are advised to leave home 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual.
Traffic officers will be deployed at different locations to guide drivers and help maintain traffic flow. People can also follow the Islamabad traffic update through FM 92.4 and the official social media channels of Islamabad Traffic Police.
